#582: Koyo Tofu And Miso Ramen Made With Organic Noodles

Another Koyo. Very curious how this one does; hoping the tofu is palatable.

Here’s the package back…

A single packet of flavoring.

Awaiting the noodles!

So as with the other Koyo, the noodles were pretty good. However this time there was a strong funky miso flavor and I’m generally not that big of a miso fan. Again like the mushroom it was palatable but not highly enjoyable. 2.5 out of 5.0 stars.  Find it here.

‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’ was another film I watched for a college film class. Good stuff!

#581: Koyo Mushroom Ramen Made With Organic Noodles

Haven’t liked a ton of these thus far but let’s give this one a chance.

Back panel…

A single packet of flavoring

Was nice to see lots of bits of real mushroom in the mix.

Finished. The noodles themselves aren’t too bad – a step above what you’d find in, say, Top Ramen. The flavoring isn’t too bad but not awesome either. It has a nice mushroom flavor but its also very salty. Edible but not amazing. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. Find it here.

If you haven’t seen this, you should. This is ‘Battleship Potemkin,’ a very early Russian film. Had to watch this for film class a few years back. Has some rather campy scenes, believe it or not – watch for the baby stroller scene!

#471: Koyo Lemongrass Ginger Ramen Made With Organic Noodles

The first thing I noticed about this one was that it was expired. I got these at The Market At Anacortes on July 4th or 5th this year. I’m sure they’re still fine but jeez! Lenmongrass ginger… I like ginger that’s for sure. Wondering about lemongrass though – I guess we’ll see…

Single packet of powder.

Yup – powder – nothing much to see here raelly.

Added one egg and cooked it with the noodles. Well, I must say I am rather taken aback by the way these noodles taste. The noodles aren’t bad by themselves – a little chewy. The broth had a lemongrass and slight ginger flavor. The thing is, is that I don’t think anybody checked to see what slapping all these ingredients together would be like in one’s mouth, otherwise known as a facehole. Therefore it is my decree that these are funky and not so good. My wife found them to be nasty and the one word I would call them would be muddy. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars; truly disappointing. Find it here.

#454: Koyo Asian Vegetable Ramen Made With Organic Noodles

During my vacation I found quite a few of these at ‘The Market At Anacortes.’ I’ve reviewed one in the past and been interested in doing the rest. Here’s some of them – Asian Vegetable flavor. Here we go…

One packet – feels very full… Wonder what is lurking inside?

Okay some weird looking seasonings going on here – kinda clumpy… Some veggies too.

Finished product – added an egg during the  oiling. This is something of a dilemma. The packaging called for 1 1/3 cups of water. I also added an egg. It also called for 4 minutes of cooking. After just over two minutes, the noodles had sucked up all of the liquid. Very strange. I think that 1 1/3 is just not enough water for this package. This left the noodles very dry and sticky. The seasoning tasted somewhat decent but not all that great. As for broth, there really wasn’t any to speak of. I’m bummed. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

Here’s something from Japan – looks interesting…

Here’s some kind of weird merchandising video for Nintendo beastied up by the guys at Everything Is Terrible

#166: Koyo Garlic Pepper Ramen Made With Organic Noodles

So this came from a local snooty natural foods place in Edmonds. We’ll see how it is…

Single packet…

Smells good…

Sp the back of the package mentions how it is made from heirloom wheat and super special and amazing. It’s made in China and distributed in the states. So it mentions also that it is low fat and indeed says its carrying 1g of fat. Also, there is dehydrated garlic going on here! A decent amount!  Having trouble placing the pepper though… Hmmm…

So my final thoughts on this one… The noodles were a bit drab actually – not very exciting. The broth however was a nice flavor and really enjoyable. I’m giving this a 3.25 stars. If the noodles were better I think it could’ve merited a 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. Kinda funny that  this ramen is Japanese and made in China and sold in the USA… Get it here.
