Re-Review: Payless Xtra Big Pancit Canton Original

Oh man I thought this was a new one! I reviewed this at #93! Here’s something from the Philippines! Been awhile since a review from there. Pancit Canton reminds me a lot of Indonesia’s Mi Goreng; the noodles are drained and then stirred with the dry and wet ingredients and served. Let’s try this one out!

The back of the package.

The noodle block – big for Pancit Canton instant, but then again this is XTRA BIG!

Powder seasoning.

Lots of it.

Soy sauce and oil.

I like how the soy and oil’s syrface tensions make things look.

Finished. Added some veggies, a couple scrambled eggs with Cavender’s Greek Seasoning, some roast beef and some Dua Belibis chili sauce. This stuff is excellent! The noodles are chewy and the flavoring coasts nice and has a sweet and salty taste. Not really spicy as Mi Goreng usually is. If you want to like Mi Goreng but can’t handle the heat, this would be an excellent alternative! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars – still amazingly good since review #93! UPC bar code 4800016555992 .

#744: Payless Instant Mami Beef Flavor

I was digging in the bottom of the noodle hamper and pulled this one out – pretty old and needs ingested ASAP! It’s one my sister picked up for me in Canada last year. Very small pack too! Let’s give it a try.

Looks like a lot of liquid for such a small packet – perhaps I ought to add the recommended additions.

A portion of the noodle block.

One shiny silver packet.

The powder soup base.

Finished. I added an egg, some of my veggie mix and some corned beef lunch meat. So the noodles are a slight bit mushy but of a slightly wider gauge than most. The broth has a nice beef flavor – and there’s a ton of broth. This is definitely a soup affair. Not bad, not amazing or something to write home about. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. A Payless commercial.

#409: Payless Instant Mami Chicken Flavor

So here’s something new by a name I’ve liked a lot in the past. I have always given high marks to Payless’ Pancit Canton varieties, but this is the first time with some Instant Mami. Mami? What is Mami?! Wikipedia says it is:

Mami, a type of noodle soup found in the Philippines

Okay that’s a start… After looking around a bit, it seems that Pancit Mami means noodles in broth, so I’m figuring since that’s what this is, that’s what it be.

A single solitary packet of powder.

Some seriously white powder! Kind of hard to photograph, but got a good angle going on here.

Since it was my breakfast, I added two eggs (fried), which have a little douse of pepper and were cooked in a light amount of spray olive oil and garlic salt. Finally, I sliced a single slice of roasted turkey breast lunch meat.

So the broth is nice – very homey and comfortable; not too salty at all. The noodles are basic as can be and not out of the realm of basic expectations. The eggs went well as did the turkey and seasoning. It was a hearty and warming bowl of noodles. I liked it immensely. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

A commercial for the beef variety.

When I first got WiFi on a laptop years back, I decided it’d be cool to check out streaming radio. So I Googled streaming radio on Google. I found a huge list and quite by random, came across WWOZ New Orleans, LA. It was during a show hosted by a lady who went by the Soul Sister and was a show devoted to deep funk and rare grooves. During this, I got turned onto an album Nigerian Disco Funk and have dug on this stuff ever since, Worth an earfull!

#366: Payless Pancit Shanghai Oriental Style

So here’s something new from Payless – Paincit Shanghai. I’ve had numerous Pancit Canton varieties in the past. Somebody once commented I should try the Shanghai and alluded to it being hot and spicy. We shall see!

So two packets – a funky paste weirdness on the left and the veggies on the right.

Kind of interesting that we have no powdered seasoning with this one like the Payless Xtra Big ones… Hmmm. By the way this is a drain the water off one.

Added two fried eggs. So not too bad but not great. I mean the noodles rocked; I really liked the broad noodles. The seasoning wasn’t  all that impressive though. So basically, I liked it, but I wish there was more and I wish it blew my mind a bit more too. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars.

#357: Payless Xtra Big Kalamansi Pancit Canton

So I have found that I really like this pancit canton – the Payless Xtra Big chilimansi and regular are awesome – so let’s see if the lime one is rockin’!

So a powder packets and some soy sauce and flavored oil…

Here they are in the bowl waiting for the drained noodles.

Added two hard boiled eggs, a little pickled ginger and a pinch of fried shallots. During my first bite I realized the shells hadn’t all been removed from the eggs – the hard way! So I opted to just remove the eggs. So this was some really enjoyable and tasty stuff. I would be happy to eat this every day! Much like Mi Goreng Satay my Indomie. I loved it. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

This is a game played with a kalamansi – the lime on the ground. However I do not know what you call the mallet…
