#914: Nissin Ramen Shop Sapporo Miso Flavor

Here’s something I picked up at the Bellevue Uwajimaya. So this is Sapporo miso flavor. What’s that? Here’s what Wikipedia says:

Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, is especially famous for its ramen. Most people in Japan associate Sapporo with its rich miso ramen, which was invented there and which is ideal for Hokkaido’s harsh, snowy winters. Sapporo miso ramen is typically topped with sweetcorn, butter, bean sprouts, finely chopped pork, and garlic, and sometimes local seafood such as scallop, squid, and crab. Hakodate,^[8] another city of Hokkaidō, is famous for its salt flavored ramen, while Asahikawa,^[9] in the north of the island, offers soy sauce flavored ones.

Finished (click to enlarge). I tried to make it as close to traditional Sapporo miso ramen as I could. Added sweet corn, kizami shoga (pickled ginger), ham, butter, sweet onions, stir-fry vegetables ands Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are great – thicker and very nice chewiness. The broth is nice as well – a deep, rich miso taste. This is some good stuff! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 4902105113783

#904: Myojo Ippei-chan Yomise-No Yakisoba Oriental Style With Mayonnaise 一平ちゃん

Here’s a new one we got at Uwajimaya. This looks really good! Nothing says tasty like a little bit of Japanese mayonnaise! Let’s check it out!

Interesting; I expected chili powder but I taste seaweed and sesame seed.

Here we go! A mayonnaise packet! You can get all artsy with this one – use scissors and cut off a corner to get a thin stream.

Finished (click to enlarge).  Added stir-fry vegetables, some baked chicken with Lindberg-Snider Red Baron BBQ Spice, kizami shoga (pickled ginger) and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles were really nice – floffy and almost buttery. The yakisoba sauce really makes it all quite tasty and the mayonnaise is really a nice addition – adds a bit of interesting comfort food notion. The vegetables were good – primarily cabbage, but it was crunchy! Good stuff – 4.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 011152219875 .

#847: Itomen Sansai Soba (Edible Wild Plant Buckwheat Cup)

Here’s one I got at Uwajimaya in Beaverton, OR on the way home from our big California trip this summer. I’m sure there’s a better translation for it’s name, but this is what I came up with. Shall we?

Finished. The noodles are a little on the crumbly and weak of character side – kind of a surprise. The broth is salty, kind of sweet and also has a fish component. The edible wild plant is pretty good stuff – lots of it – as well as a couple little tempura bits thrown in. The short bean looking things are quite good. The more I ate it, the more I liked it. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 4901104302518 .

#839: CJ CheilJedang Mild Bean Curd Stew

Saw this at H Mart a while back and it piqued my curiosity. Was kind of pricy for a little cup – close to $3… Wonder what’s in there.

Finished.  These noodles aren’t my cup of tea. They’re so slippery and hard to eat for me. Really thin and odd. Kind of like bean thread but even harder to break with your lips. The broth is interesting; has an odd heat and flavor. The bits and pieces of veggies and tofu are wonderful – unfortunately not enough for me to say I really like this stuff though. Would love to try a kimchi red broth version of this – could be good! 2.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8801007189192 .

#791: Acecook Super Big Ramen Tonkotsu Flavor Japanese Style Instant Noodle

Here’s one I got a while ago at Uwajimaya in Seattle. It’s big, Japanese and tonkotsu flavor – sounds much better than the last one I had!

Only one seasoning packet, but it’s really big.

I put most of the packet in this little sake cup – it would not all fit.

Finished. Added some veggies, some chicken lunch meat, kizami shoga (pickled ginger), a hard-boiled egg marinated in Kikkoman soy sauce, some Ajishima Kimchi furikake, some Sushinori (seaweed) and finally a couple shakes of Tabasco Buffalo Style hot sauce. The noodles: not bad – a nice texture and quality to them. The broth however is way too salty for me – so much so I couldn’t handle it. I was really shocked at that but oh well. Bummed. 1.0 out of 5.0 – the noodles were good, at least. UPC bar code 074410396718 – get it here.
