#692: Samyang Savory Vegetable Flavor Assorted Vegetable Ramen

Here’s another one from Ramen Place! I’ve tried the cup version which just said 60 Ingredients, but it’s got to be the same thing here, just in a pack. Let’s give it a try!

Here’s the back of the package.

Here’s the noodle block – a big one.

Powder seasoning pack.

Lots of angry reddish powder! Grrr!!!

Vegetable pack – good sized too!

Loads of nice looking veggies!

Finished. I added some Bird’s Eye Stir Fry veggies, an egg which I boiled with the noodles, a little pinch of cheese and some Ajishima Kim Chi furikake! So starting with the noodles: chewy and very Korean. A slightly wider gauge than a regular instant noodle and a better quality noodle. The broth is great – a nice vegetable flavor and a good spiciness to it. The veggies were appropriately everywhere and re-hydrated nicely. I liked this one – and then I added all my stuff to it and it was even better! Good stuff – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC barcode 8801073110168 – get it here.

#675: Samyang Nagasaki Jjampong

Here’s the second of the two packs sent to me by Chris H. of Westport, CT – thanks again! So this is the other extremely popular variety out of Korea, Samyang’s Nagasaki Jjampong. I read that ‘white broth’ instant noodles are all the rage there – none are for sale in the Asian grocery stores I frequent and the ones Chris sent are from Korea. Anyways, let’s give it a try!

Here’s the back of the package. I decided that adding 550mL water and cooking for three minutes would do the trick.

The noodle block in this one’s round.

Powder seasoning packet.

Amazing – it smells and tastes like Jalapeno Cheese Cheetos! It’s pretty tasty!

The veggie packet.

I smell fish and see some seaweed. Curious as to how this will come out.

Finished. First, the noodles. Wide and chewy – like an instant udon. The broth is spicy and has a nice heartiness to it. The little veggies are good too – not exactly sure of everything in the packet but it has a meat-like texture; maybe fish? Not sure. All in all, this is excellent. 4.75 out of 5.0 stars! UPC number 8801073110472 – get it here.

The Ramen Rater News: Korea Yakult (Paldo) Will Be Exporting Kkokkomyeon Soon!

I’ve heard now from two seperate sources that this Kkokkomyeon stuff is really popular and is going to be a really big deal when it comes to the USA. Both a seller of instant noodles alluded to it as well as a mention by name by the lady at the Kitty House at 99 Ranch Market (they sell Hello Kitty stuff there).

It has been named the business success of the year in Korea – beating out the iPad 2! Pretty amazing that noodles beat out Steve Jobs’ last hurrah.  Here are some articles about this stuff. Rest assured that as soon as I can get my mitts on some of these noodles, a very in-depth and detailed review will be found here.  Hey look!!! I just looked online and found you can get them off of Amazon – look here and here.

#553: Samyang 60 Ingredients Cup

Here’s a bit of a mystery sent to me by Nathan in Canada. So what’s this one? Well, the little icon up top gave it away as a Samyang variety, but all I can say is it’s 60 Ingredients. Let’s try it, and if you can read the cup and it’s called something more, please let me know in a comment!

I’m thinking there’s a good amount of the ingredients in here…

Lots of interesting bits and pieces – and a ton of fiery powder.

Well, most of the bigger ingredients hid so here you are. The noodles are different; they’re chewy and spongy too. They’ve got a strange consistency that I’m not used to seeing in Samyang products. The broth is spicy of course – rarely do I review non-spicy Korean noodles; they just don’t make a lot of them. The veggies were interestingI found quite a few bits of mushromo – more than I expeted. Not a bad cup noodle ut room for improvement. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars.

Feed you kids spicy noodles – builds character!

#522: Samyang Hot Beef Flavor Ramen

Was very happy to see this one at the store today! I really like Samyang stuff. I liked their regular bowl, cup, big bowl, pack, beef flavor… It’s good, spicy and straightforward Korean noodles.

The red contains the powder, the blue contains the veggies. The red one had some weight to it – pretty dense!

That reddish powder looks like it’s going to be good’n’spicy! The package comes with a nice large brick of noodles. 550cc boiling water and three minutes later…

Voila! Added two eggs scrambled in the pan with a tad of pepper and a punch of Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning (you can get it here), which has a nice flavor and a little heat on its own. This stuff delivers exactly what its claiming to. The noodles are plentiful and nice and chewy. The vegetables are ample and very nicely re-hydrated. The broth was nice and spicy too – spicier than the regular Samyang Beef. I really like this stuff. If you like spicy noodles and want to try something Korean, this is perfect! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! Get it at your local Korean grocery store or here.
