#961: Trident Chow Mein Soft Noodles

Here’s one of the packs that came from Australia! Thanks go to Melanie I. of Jannali, NSW for sending these and also thanks to Mark K. for getting her to do it! The last one was a ‘2 Minute Noodle’ while this one says they’re soft noodles. I wonder what the difference is?

Here’s the back of the pack and the answer to my above question (click image to enlarge). These get drained and then the seasonings stirred in.

The main chunk of the noodle block.

Powdered seasoning.

Not a huge amount.

Seasoned oil packet.

The oil has a light onion scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added baked chicken, fried egg, stir fry veggies and some Krazy Mixed Up Salt. The noodles aren’t bad – flat and thin. The glavoring however is kind of boring; not like any chow mein instant I’ve had before. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 93101182300043

#948: Trident Hot & Spicy 2 Minute Noodles

Hey check this out! This is the first ever package of instant noodles I’ve reviewed from Australia! Thanks go to Melanie I. of Jannali, NSW for sending these and also thanks to Mark K. for getting her to do it! This is an interesting pack – let’s check it out!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). I really like how in the lower left corner it tells you to “Beware – chili powder is very hot.” A spiciness warning on a pack of noodles that isn’t from Korea! Wow!

The noodle block. On the pack they call it a ‘cake.’

The dry seasoning powder.

Interesting – has a sweet and citrussy flavor to it – I did notice that it says this stuff was made in Thailand for Trident – I wonder if this will be Tom Yum like?

Seasoned oil eh?

Looks more like a paste to me – has a definitespiciness and yet a little more citrus hints.

Finally, we have the one we were told to beware – the chili powder packet. It’s actually much smaller than the other two.

A little taste and… bah – you call that hot? Actually, yes it is pretty hot and – wow it kind of creeps up on you! Okay yeah this is spicy chili powder!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added onion, green bell pepper, ham with some Apinya Thai Chili sauce on top (check it out here), and a sprinkle of Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles were good – what you’d expect in a pack of instant noodles. The broth was excellent and as I expected, it was full of heat and citrus and definitely a Tom Yum flavor. Great stuff – 3.5 out of 5.0 stars! I also want to mention the hot sauce. Apinya sent me a sample the other day and I’ve really fallen for this amazing concoction! It blends the heat of peppers and the crisp depth of ginger in a great way – it’s definitely a premium hot sauce and if I were still running The Sauce Rater, it would get 5.0/5.0 hot peppers! UPC bar code 9310182300012 .

Couldn’t find much on YouTube about this brand but here’s a train going by in JAnnali, NSW Australia!

#845: Nongshim Doong Ji Authentic Korean Cold Noodles in Chilled Broth

Well, time for another try with cold noodles! Been really enjoying them recently – curious how these will fare – look pretty fancy!

Here’s the back of the package. So it’s a little different cooking this one, but shouldn’t be too tough.

Buckwheat noodles!

This is one big packet – won’t fit into one of my little cups.

Veggies!

An interesting looking mixture.

This is put on at the very end. Interesting…

Another one of the new bowls from the President of Nongshim America! Thank you again! I decided it would only be right to try each one out the first time with a Nongshim product.

Finished. Added a little roast beef and some hard boiled egg with Krazy Mixed Up Salt. Okay first things first… A while back, I tried Naengmyeon at a Korean restaurant and really didn’t like it. The noodles were really very hard to eat. I read about it on Wikipedia and it mentioned that a lot of times the servers would use big scissors to cut the noodles into shorter more manageable lengths. As I took the first bite of these noodles, I found myself in the same situation, so I tried the scissors – big difference! With that out of the way… The noodles are thin and have an almost gel-like coating. I don’t like this when it comes to bean thread, but it’s different here. The broth is sweet and tasty. No heat like a ramyun – it’s more of a sweet and refreshing flavor. The mustard is different; very interesting! The veggies are good – cucumber and other bits you’d commonly find served cold in there. All in all, I’m really impressed; this was really comparable to the noodle dish I got at a Korean restaurant. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! UPC bar code 031146158171 – get it here.

#512: Paldo Big Bowl Noodle Authentic! Hot & Spicy Instant Noodle With Soup Base

Hey it’s the 600yj post! That’s overall – not just reviews obviously. Okay so this is one really big bowl. It’s about the size of a 45 RPM record! About as deep as a regular bowl noodle. Been waiting for the right day for this one – I’m sick and my nose is clogged and sore throat, aches and pains, etcetera. This should do the trick – hot and spicy Korean noodles!

Powder on the left, veggies on the right. I liked how it said ‘other’ on the little recycling logo.

Holy crap that’s quite a bit of veggie action there! Awesome! The powder looks like it’ll be spicy – just what I need…

Added a couple eggs. Spicy was what I wanted, spicy is what I got! Awesome! The noodles aren’t the finest ever, but they’re ample and that’s what I needed. The veggies were certainly enjoyable – nice amount of those. Finally the broth was nice and spicy and I actually feel better beccause of it. Kind of like a spicy vegetable soup I enjoyed thoroughly. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

#511: Menraku Japanese Ramen “Miso” Authentic Ramen Soup

I woke up with a sore throat, runny nose, sore joints and a bit of sneezing. I’m sick. This sucks. I thought maybe some miso would bring me back from the brink. I guess we’ll see how it goes…

On the left we have a big packet of veggies and seasoning powder. On the right, a liquid packet.

So the liquid is a miso paste. Quite an interesting earthy flavor – got some on my finger and tried it straight!

Finished product. Added two fried eggs with a little pepper and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning on top. Not too bad, however not my favorite of the Menraku varieties I’ve had so far. The miso flavor was a little funky. The noodles were good and the veggies were superior – the corn was actually crunchy and fresh taste! All good for the most part. Just not super awesome. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.
