#509: Ve Wong Kung-Fu Shrimp Flavor Instant Oriental Noodle Soup

Shramp! Nothin’ like shramp! Ami I wrong? AM I??? Well, I like shrimp and so today I will ingest a bowl of Ve Wong Shrimp flavor instant noodle soup from Taiwan. ‘Nuff said.

Seasoning on the left – as well as veggies and nice little shrimps! The seasoned oil was quite pungent – sesame and maybe fish sauce.

You can kind of make out the oil on the right upper middle – it’s the shiny stuff.

I added a couple of fried eggs and some Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning since it was shrimp. Man, this was a nice little repast! Just enough noodles, a broth that wasn’t too salty and definitely not fishy. The veggies were of a good quantity and quality, and the little shrimp re-hydrated nicely and tasted great. Well, all of these things put together give it a 4.0 out of 5.0 stars – wasn’t expecting it would get such high marks but hey, a surprise like this is always nice! Look for it here.

#475: Gefen Oriental Style Ramen Noodles Vegetable Flavor

Here’s another of the kosher noodles sent to me by Michael M. of Staten Island, NY. This one’s vegetable – kind of a strange flavor. Carrot? Celery? Zucchini? Acorn squash? What kind of vegetable? It has to be something tasty… Well, let’s check it out.

A green leafy vegetable flavor it looks to be according the the packet design. Although the chicken flavor has a packet with a blue chicken on it and chickens aren’t usually blue so my reasoning could be flawed…

Some yellow powdered seasoning.

Added two fried eggs. So Here it is all done. The noodles are decent – about what you’d expect from a domestic pack of instant noodles. The broth is nice – salty and savory. I think this would be just about perfect for a sick day as a comfort food. I liked it – was what I expected. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. One thing to note – the vegetables are not what I expected. The ingredients list onionand shitake mushroom powder, but some of the other spices are awesome – cinnamon, star anise, fenugreek, red chili, cumin and coriander. A very nice collaboration of spices!

#474: Saigon Ve Wong Kung-Fu Shrimp & Crab Flavor Instant Rice Noodles

Something else from Saigon Ve Wong – Shrimp & Crab flavor! I sure found a lot of these down in California at the Dublin 99 Ranch Market. They’re pretty cheap too – I think these were around a dollar. I recently had a request that I include the prices of these noodles on my reviews – and that’s going to be a little tricky… See, when I go noodle hunting, I end up getting as many new kinds as I can and a lot of the time the receipt has a list – and extremely cryptic listings. So I’ll do my best – I can do an ‘around’ pricing kind of deal. So yeah – this was around a buck. Anyways…

Four packets! Sweet! Starting top left going clockwise: veggies, seasoned oil, powder soup base, chili powder.

Everything sitting atop some rice noodles.

Added two fried eggs with a little bit of Cavender’s All-Purpose Greek Seasoning (really awesome stuff – if you haven’t tried it, check it out here). So this was better than I expected – the noodles came out a little more al dente than usual – usually a complaint but it worked here. The broth was very tasty – lots of nice veggies and bits of shrimp. I was very happy with this one – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.

Vietnamese noodle fondue? Oh wow this looks really cool!

Travel video about Vietnam – looks pretty interesting!

#468: Paldo Snack Noodle Soup Slightly Hot Flavor

Snack noodle? What’s that? What flavor is it? Slightly hot flavor? Is that like medium? Or is that mild? I swear I got this quite recently – and it expires that soon? Hmm – weird! We shall see as wel delve into a bag of Paldo Snack Ramen Slightly Hot Flavor.

A single packet – kind of weird since it mentions placing the soup base and vegetable mix in… Two packets in one perhaps?

Not easily seen, however there’s a good amount of veggies in with the angry powder.

With two fried eggs (soft yolk), a slice of oven roasted turkey breast and a dash of pepper.  So I would say the broth is a bit more than slightly hot; more like medium hot. The noodles were great – chewy and plentiful. The eggs and turkey really brought it together for a nice breakfast this morning. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.

Never been able to find any ‘official’ Paldo commercials, but here’s one on Korean culture.

Something pretty oscure from 1971 I found while searching with the keywords 1971 and ramen on YouTube. Go figure.

#439: Little Cook Tom Yum Seafood Premium Noodle

So the idea of a seafood noodle soup with fake seafood has been kind of daunting for the past couple monthsHowever, today was the day. I must fear no ramen! So, here we have some seafood tom yum fromThialand.

Nice earthy colors from left to right: dry seasoning powder, seasoned oil paste and finally chili powder.

Then we’ve got a retort pouch!

It’s full of fake seafood – looks like it’s made from tapioca and other things. There appear to be mushrooms in there too according to the ingredients.

Wow now that’s a crazy looking pile of packet contents. Should be interesting…

Added a couple fried eggs. So here we are. The noodles are of a wider gauge – broad and flat and actually quite good. The broth is flavorful – spicy and lemonny. As for the fake seafood, it’s not bad. However the mushrooms are kind of funky – I had one larger piece that was almost the consistency of a carrot. So this was pretty good stuff I’ll admit and I’m kind of pleased I have two of them. Giving this one a 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.
