Re-Review: Sapporo Ichiban Japanese Style Noodles & Original Flavored Soup

We went to Walmart on Black Friday! Well, let me explain – it was at 6pm or so, so the amount of crazy people was lower. It seems though that the Walmart we always go to has a surplus of crazy people usually. I imagine the early morning Black Friday folks would’ve been a scary lot. One thing I noticed was that they hadn’t bought all of the noodles, so I thought I’d get a couple to re-review. Here’s one of them last time I tried it, it was revirew #207. Hoping some new things to review come soon – only have one in the hamper that’s needing review… Re-reviews are fun though since they’re not been visited in so long.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block. Decently sized with a little more weight than I usually find in domestic packs. The noodles when sampled uncooked are a little different too – pretty good.

The lone seasoning packet.

The seasoning powder. Kind of has a soy flavor to it; I would think this one’s a soy sauce noodle perhaps?

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added stir fry veggies, hard boiled egg with Cavender’s Greek Seasoning, Thanksgiving turkey (the very last bits of it) and some Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are good – large amoung and decent gauge. The broth is good too – strong soy and salt flavor. Good stuff! 3.5 out of 5.0 stars! UPC bar code 076186000011 – get it here!

Some older Sapporo Ichiban commercials

Looks like Sapporo Ichiban Shio Ramen has been around for a while – glad they finally brought it to the US!

#421: Myojo Kakesoba-Desse Soy Sauce Flavor Japanese Style Soup Noodles

So here’s another of these nice Myojo varieties. A little more spendy at $2.49, but really some nice stuff.

One seasoning packet full of seasoning.

Notice the shade of the noodles? Buckwheat and wheat flour. Big mound of seasoning.

Finished! Not too bad – was a little sweet, quite salty and flavorful. The noodles weren’t all that great though. I’ve enjoyed other Myojo nice bowls better. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

#419: Myojo Ramen-Desse-Shio Japanese Style Soup Noodles Oriental Flavor

So here’s another of these great Myojo bowls – hopefully I like this one too!

Two packets – a lot of powder and some kind of oil…

The oil was some kind of soy and sesame combo. Lots of powder!

Finished product. The broth is salty and has a strong taste of sesame oil. The noodles are very thin. They are very good – quite chewy and of excellent character. I could eat this stuff for days. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! Get it here.

#413: Souper Brand Japanese Style Alimentary Paste Chow-Mein With Soup Stock

So we were in the Asian grocery today and looking around on the fresh noodle aisle. I’ve done all the varieties they had of the Myojo Udon in the past, but there’s quite a few here I haven’t done before too, so here we go!

Underneath, the noodles. Above, the seasoning packet. So this stuff is a different deal – you put a little oil into a pan, fry up the noodles for about three minutes and then throw in the seasoning and cook for maybe another minute and voila!

The package recommended adding veggies and meats, but I wanted to see how it fared on its own (plus I didn’t have the time to do either veggies nor meats). So this stuff is awesome – much like Sapporo Ichiban’s Chi Mein except it doesn’t have the little powder seaweed (green laver) packet. I liked this stuff a lot! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! It was truly SOUPER!

Couldn’t find anything chow mein commercial other than this…

Gordon Ramsay making Dim Sum! AWESOME!!!
