The International Lunch

Here’s what I had for lunch today (click to enlarge) – not a new review or anything, but thought it was interesting how many international flavors came together on this one. First, FMF Chow Noodles Masala Flavor from Fiji. Added kimchi, a Korean dish, some Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake from Japan, Dua Belibis chili sauce from Indonesia, some ham, stirfry veggies and sweet onion, and a 2 egg omelet with 2 slices of processed cheese and some Tabasco Jalapeno hot sauce – which I presume is all from the United States but might not be. Was pretty good – quite an interesting combo!

#846: Vifon Mi Kim Chi Kim Chee Instant Noodle Seafood Flavour

My friend Todd T, clued me in the other day about a new Asian grocery on 99 in south Everett and we checked it out. Well, I found this interesting one. Vietnamese kimchi ramn! Check it out!

Importer sticker.

Back of the package. Click to enlarge.

The noodle block.

Seasoning powder.

Chili powder.

Chili powder on top of the seasoning powder.

Seasoned oil.

Lots of little bits in there.

Veggie packet.

Looks like veggies and seafood – smells like seafood at least.

I want to take a minute to talk about kimchi. As you can see, I like it! Got this jar maybe three weeks ago. Basically, it’s cabbage and a couple other things like onion, green onion, salt, anchovy soup broth and chili paste. The recipe differs from person to person that makes it, but from what I’ve seen it’s usually pretty close to that.

I knew I wanted to buy some, but I had no idea which one to get. If you go to an Asian grocery, you’ll find a lot of different kinds and brands. I found this one at a place called KS Mart in the Lynnwood, Washington area. KS Mart is awesome – they’ve got everything you could need that is Korean – great instant noodle selection, veggies, candy and chips – if you’re in the area, this is great! Anyways, We went there and got a small amount, then the next time we were hooked and got this enormous one. Check out the price – not too bad for so much of it! This would be considered ‘store brand.’Just seems fresher, which is kind of a funny thing to say…

See, when you get a big jar like this, you should first off know that the contents are going through the process of fermentation. The jar should be opened over a sink to prevent any of the ‘juice’ from spilling out – which I’ll let you know will stain your clothes really well! It’s pretty neat to see though; the top of the stuff can even be bubbling from the gases escaping! It’s not like a vigorously shaken soda or anything, but you should just be mindful of it.

What’s it taste like? Well, it’s crunchy, a bit spicy, kind of acidic and just really good. I highly recommend it!It’s on the list of top healthy foods of the world. Koreans eat it as a traditional food – usually with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anyways, that was my yammering about kimchi. Now, on with the noodles!

Finished. Added some kimchi, onions, odeng (Korean fish cake), Ajishima Kimchi Furikake and Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce. The noodles are very thin and light for wheat flour noodles and exceedingly good! The broth is excellent – spicy and flavorful with a lot of color. The veggies were good too – and the bit and pieces re-hydrated well and crunchy! Good stuff – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8934561240181 – get it here.

#589: Vifon Korean Style Instant Noodle Kim Chee Flavor Bowl

I thought today I’d pause from the onslaught of funky noodles and look at this one. The thing I didn’t expect was that these would be wheat noodles and that piqued my curiosity. Here goes my 5:30pm after work breakfast!

I opted out of the microwaved noodles program and went with boiling water and putting an old yearbook from a thrift store on top.

Alrighty! Included fork update coming soon! Clockwise from top left: chili powder, seasoned oil with nice bits and great odor, fork, powder soup base and vegetable packet.

Is that the results of binge drinking Frangelico with Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich and eating lots of pizza all night? No! I don’t have a picture of that. This is everything sitting atop the noodle block awaiting the searingly painful boil. Note: noodles feel no pain so the searing part is just for effect. Carry on.

Added two fried eggs and some Konriko Creole Seasoning. I wasn’t expecting this to be so good! The noodles were almost fluffy but not spongy and gross; they were light and had good character. The broth was awesome – a little spicy and a nice taste to it. The veggies what few there were were really nice – there were some really awesome chunks of garlic. The whole thing tasted just great! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! Get it here.

Vifon commercial. Eating happy little wheat bits never tasted so good! Or evil!

Wow I would so eat a few of these! Kim chee and KFC? Hell yes!

#348: Paldo Bowl Noodle Soup Kimchi Flavor

So here’s another one of these by Paldo. It shall be today’s breakfast/lunch.

One solitary packet of love.

Mount Kimchi Flavoring! Behold all of its glory!

So I added a slice of oven roasted turkey breast lunch meat. So there are veggies – just in the bottom of the bowl on this one. The noodles sat for about 8 minutes and I thought that made them extra good. The broth was nice and spicy too, and the veggies were crisp. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars – a good lunch. Find it here.

These guys are easily scared by noodles.

This looks like good food!

#344: Paldo Stirfried Kimchi Noodles

So haven’t seen this one before so I snagged it today. Its a little hefty actually and seemed much bigger than most packages…

Top packet is dry powder soup base and the bottom is stir fried kimchi! It was amazing!

Look at that craziness! Wow! Smelled really good!

Added a couple of fried eggs. Pretty good stuff! Chewy noodles, spicy broth and yeah – kimchi! I liked it. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get some here.
