Here’s the original review. It’s cold today so I thought it sounded good. I figure I should mention – there will be some new reviews very soon! I am working on a huge project that’s been taking so much time. A hint – it has to do with upgrading this blog! I’ve been editing every post and image. A lot of work let me tell you! It will definitely be worth it in the end!
Finished (click image to enlarge). Added kamaboko, stir fry vegetables, an egg, sweet onion and processed cheese. Awesome – just as good as last time – 4.75 out of 4.0 stars! UPC bar code 648436100705 .
Here’s some more Kokomen – this is the one sold in the USA! It’s a really rainy day today and some spicy chicken noodles sound really tasty! Let’s hit it!
The side panels (click image to enlarge). Note the address on the lower left – these must be Gangnam style!
The noodle block.
The powder seasoning packet.
Ahhh – Jalapeno and chicken powder! Smells great!
Those little white strips? Dehydrated chicken!
Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sliced turkey breast (how fitting for this week), sweet onion, Krazy Mixed Up Salt and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are really good, although I think the pack variety’s offering is a little better. The broth is wonderful – a nice jalapeno chicken flavor. The veggies are nice and the little bits of chicken are neat to see. I love this stuff – jalapeno chicken noodle soup is right up my alley! Just like the Kko Kko Myun King Cup from Korea, I give it 4.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 648436100705 .
Here’s the last of the new Nongshim cups – looks like a good one too!
Here’s a close-up of the lid.
Here’s the information from the side panels (click to enlarge).
The noodle block.
The seasoning powder packet.
Here’s the powder – has a kind of sweetness to it.
Here’s everything that was in the cup as far as veggies go. Lots of nice looking bits of pieces including narutomaki and other goodies!
Finished (click to enlarge). Added odeng, kamaboko, sweet onion, green onion and a pinch of Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are good – a little wider than what you normally see in a cup noodle and not at all spongy. The broth is a sweet and seafood flavor I liked very much. As for the extras like the veggies and narutomaki, it’s superb – they hydrate very nicely. It seemed a little more ‘premium’ than I expected from a little cup noodle and I really liked it a lot! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 031146017096
PSY is now a spokesperson for Nongshim and so I thought I’d throw this in – it’s PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ but as a Halloween light display – just watch it…
A sneak preview of the upcoming Public Television (PBS) Series Kimchi Chronicles starring Marja Vongerichten and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The series is a food and travel show that discovers Korean food and culture over a 13 episode journey. Guest stars include Hugh and Deb Jackman and Heather Graham.
Finally after a long wait, Kkokkomyun has come to the United States as Kokomen! This is the instant that brought about the whole ‘white broth’ craze in Korea. Here’s an excerpt from my interview with Paldo:
TRR> After a very long wait, Kokomen has just been released in the United States. Could you tell us about Kokomen and how it came into existence and what makes it special?
PALDO> Usually New Ramen comes out from existing similar types. For instance, Jjajang, Jjambbong, Yuk-gye-jang, Cold Noodle, Kissmyon, Nagasaki Jjambbong Etc. But, Kokomen is very unique and prototype of all recipes. Kokomen was introduced through a Cooking Contest and food critics and people were amazed by the taste of it. Paldo took this recipe and developed to a total brand new product to our consumers.
Finished. Added some over baked chicken I made with Jane’s Krazy Mixed Up Salt. The noodles are plump and plentiful – they have a very nice texture. The broth is awesome – has a strong jalapeno flavor as well as a great chicken taste. The veggies are of a nice quantity and are really quite tasty! These components come together to create an original and extremely tasty noodle soup which I am happy to again give 5.0 out of 5.0 stars – excellent! I recommend it. UPC bar code 648436100682 – get the Korean version here.
The Kkokkomyun commercial – with Lee Kyung-Kyu!
Here’s Lee Kyung-Kyu – I think this might be an interview about Kkokkomyun.
This is one that’s been in the ramen hamper for a while and so it’s time to give it a go. I’m usually a little leery of the noodles with the thick black coating, but I’m throwing caution to the wind; I liked the last Jjamngmen I had so why not!
Here’s the back of the package.
Had a different Nong Shim variety a long time ago that used these noodles. They’re like long rice micro-macaroni! I think the idea is you get the wider gauged noodle without the chewiness you would get if they weren’t hollow.
A packet of veggies…
A nice melange of color and variety. What you do is boil the noodles with the veggies (and add any you might want – I added some C&W frozen Stir Fry Vegetables) and afterwards…
This packet will enter the big pot of drained noodles.
Here’s what it looks like.
Also a packet of vegetable oil. Stir, Stir, stir!
Well this looks shmancy! The noodles are nice – they don’t seem like your typical rice noodles at all; chewy but not overly so. The black bean veggie sauce is good, although I found myself adding a little salt. The veggies were all good. Not bad at all and was filling. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars! UPC barcode 031146007400. Get it here.
