Unless you’ve been hiding under a proverbial rock for the last couple of months, you have heard the song ‘Gangnam Style‘ by South Korean pop star PSY at one time or another, seen the horse dance, etc. Well, After he sent Nongshim a video asking if he could do a commercial for them, they said yes.
Well today, the commercials have come out – they’re pretty funny. I still want to let it be known that I formally challenge PSY to a ramyun eating contest -maybe Shin Ramyun Black Cup? That’d be awesome! Anyways, here’s some videos to check out of the commercial.

Here’s another well-known Nongshim pack – Chapagetti. Basically, you take spaghetti and combine it with Chajang, which is a black bean sauce – now you have Chapagetti!

These noodles are of a wide gauge and mention on Nongshim America’s website says there’s 12% more of them than in other varieties of theirs.
Here’s the stuff that makes the sauce.
Different than most of the seasonings I’ve seen – this is very granular.
Vegetable oil? Usually I’ve seen seasoned oil, but this is straight.
Yeah that looks like vegetable oil!
Finally, the vegetable packet.
An interesting looks little mixture! I looked in the ingredients and as it turns out, there’s potato and pork in here!
Finished. Added some veggies. I distictly remember this being very dry the last time I had this and dry isn’t something that comes to mind here. The noodles are nice and thick and the sauce coats them nicely. The sauce is rich; nice black bean flavor. The veggies and pork are great – the pork bits especially were enjoyable with a nice bit of chewy freshness. This was good – something I’d eat again. 4.0 our of 5.0 stars! This is the back of the single package – was a surprise to see it contains zero grams of fat.
The noodles block – light and stalwart, ready to take on boiling water.
A single packet of flavoring.
Upon opening the packet and pouring it into this cup, I was ensconced with the smell of tomato soup – smelled like a tomato factory – it was awesome! After this, I boiled water and threw the flavoring in – the broth took on a nice red color and had a wonderful tomato-soup like scent to it. I think you could just use half the 500ml water and other other half milk and it would be just like a bowl of tomato soup.
Here’s my favorite part – the garnish pack. You sprinkle this on top after the noodles are all done.

Finished. The noodles are perfect – just enough chewy and just the right gauge. The broth is tomato through and through – very tasty. The garnish was really nice on this one; everything came together like a tomato basil noodle kind of thing. 4.75 out of 5.0 stars – wonderful. UPC barcode 8888056000265 – get it here!
I think this is the last of the Sau Tao’s I have for reviewing at this point. This one’s Scallop flavor with thick noodles. Again, these noodles aren’t fried. If you notice to the upper right of center, you are being informed that ‘Health is important.’ Looks like 4g fat and 7.5g fiber – not too bad actually.
So here we go with the packets. I really enjoy the look of the powder packet – the one at the far left. It’s got that old Asian product look that really draws me to the noodles in the first place. Next is a clear packet of seasoned oil. This packet might often be cloudy because the temperature would be cooler. The last is the veggies and other stuff packet, a good sized one.
An interesting melange of colors going on here… Those noodles are real weird looking are they not?
As is my constant behoove, I added one fried egg. I see fried eggs in all sorts of instant noodles from every part of Asia. Breaking a soft yolk really makes the broth more accommodating and relaxing to the palate, like a fleece blanket. The noodles, healthy as they are, are kind of lacking. I think frying them gives an extra bit of flavor and texture that these don’t have. The broth was extremely thin, and I would recommend using a little less water than the directions call for – maybe just fill it a tad below the line. The winner here were the veggies. They re hydrated nicely and were delicious. It all came together decently, but wasn’t anything really exceptional. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.
NOTE: This one did come with a fork but I’ve done a Sau Tao fork update already.

The veggies / garnish from Koka have been very nice so far – colorful and lot of it. The Powder base smelled of curry too!
Dropped an egg in. Oh yeah this was really good stuff! Good noodles, very hearty broth and some really good curry flavor – much like Nissin’s Demae Ramen except it has vegetable garnish! All said and done, bravo! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! Get it here!
