#944: Wai Wai Brand Oriental Style Instant Noodles (Dry Version)

I reviewed this one years back – in the first 50 reviews. Back then I reviewed it as a soup. Recently, it was brought to my attention that these could be made in a different way – drained. Sure enough, on the back of the package are instructions on how to make them this way. I have deemed this worthy of a new review! Here we go.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge).

Here’s the noodle block in all of its pre seasoned glory.

Here’s the dry seasonings. Top, we have chili powder and below the dry seasoning mixture.

Here’s the seasoning mixture topped with the chili powder.

The oil packet.

This one has a strong onion scent – very nice.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added a couple fried eggs and some turkey with some Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake and Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce and stir fry veggies. The noodles are pretty good – chewy and plentiful. The flavoring is very strong – hot, salty and full of flavor. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8850100101105 – get it here.

A really odd Wai Wai commercial.

Another strange Wai Wai ad!

#940: Wai Wai Sour Soup Flavour Instant Noodles

Wai Wai? Because, because! I know, pretty stupid but I like to say it. I thought I’d reviewed this one before but lo and behold it stands unreviewed! This is a Thai variety and should be something interesting I hope. Let’s check it out!

The back of the packaging (click image to enlarge).

A pre-seasoned noodle block. Thin noodles densely interwoven.

Only one packet – containing a thick paste.

Quite a lot of this stuff. Has a slight citrus scent and has a wet, gritty texture.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added stir-fry veggies, thinly sliced ham, sweet onions, Dua Belibis chili sauce and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are thin and have a nice chew to them – very much a trademark Thai wheat noodle slight crumbliness to them. The broth is very spicy with strong citrus notes. Alone, the broth is very sharp. Reminiscent of a Tom Yum variant but somewhat less. so. I found it refreshing. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8850100101037 .

Wai Wai is popular in Nepal. Here’s a movie from Nepal (yes the whole thing!)

#915: Wai Wai Casserole Beef Flavour Oriental Style Instant Noodle

Here’s something new I found at H Mart. Casserole huh? Beef sounds good. By the way – underneath the sticker on the front it says ‘Beef Flavour.’ Let’s check it out.

Here’s the sticker the distributor puts on.

I really had a time scanning the back of the package. Inverting the colors had the best effect (click to enlarge).

Very thin, crunchy and tasty noodles at this point!

Powder on the left, oil on the right.

An interesting beef and slight sugary taste.

The oil has a strong onion scent.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added some stir fry veggies, onion, thin sliced rib eye, kizami shoga (pickled ginger), Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake and some green onions. The noodles are neat – thin, sort of crumbly and have a nice flavor. The broth is very light; almost bland. Has a good beef taste to it though. all in all, pretty good – 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8850100002488.

Sounds from the game Wai Wai World for the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

#833: Wai Wai Instant Vegetarian Noodle

I can’t even imagine how long ago I last reviewed anything from Wai Wai – pretty stoked on it! Let’s try seom Thai noodles!

The export sticker.

A little pack uses less water – only 350cc!

The noodle block – very tasty noodles when uncooked too!

Chili powder on the left, soup base on the right.

Oil packet.

A little bit of oil.

Finished. Added some scrambled egg and Krazy Mixed Up Salt. The noodles are different than most. They’re pre-seasoned with a nice sesame hint to them. They are also not chewy – they’re very very thin and light for wheat flour noodles. The broth is nice – not overly salty and has a very strong heat to it. A nice little meal! 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8850100101099 – get it here.

This is quite nice to listen to I thought. Nothing like a little 8bit music during a bowl of noodles!

#559: Wai Wai Quick Tom Yum Shrimp Flavour Instant Cup Noodle

Whoa what’s this?

Okay I cam read that. I figured I should pick out an orange one of some kind for Halloween…

Seasoned oil and powder…

Plus the high-tech folding fork!

Not an Autobot or a Decepticon, but this transformer feeds your face!

This stuff reeks of lemon. Reeks.

Noodles aren’t all that great but everything tastes nice – shrimp, high heat and citrus. Yup – Tom Yummy! Only rel downside is the cup itself; if you drink the broth out of it it tends to dribble down your chin. I’m adept at using a cup too so I don’t think its my fault, really. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Apparently this cartoon was banned… Happy Halloween! Commercials are below
