#455: Baijia Single Noble Pickled Radish And Duck Flavor Instant Sweet Potato Noodle ( Cup )

Baijia. Probably the single brand with the lowest consecutive ratings I’ve given. But lo and behold, I continue reviewing them – I believe that at some point there will be something awesome from them! Perhaps this pickled radish and duck flavored sweet potato noodle cup will be the holy grail? We shall see…

The first thing I noticed is that the Baijia logo is a sticker. Notice at the lower left – that little white square? Another sticker. These are covering up something, but I am not sure – probably domestic markings not meant to be seen in export. Definitely noteworthy though.

So I peel off the stickers – re-branding with a new logo. Okay let’s move on.

Hey sweet – a new fork! There’s a new fork review for it here in my ongoing review of included forks. From left to right we’ve got some odd looking vegetables, a powdered dry seasoning packet and then some seasoned oil/paste stuff.

So even though it’s a cup, they put the directions for a packaged noodle on the side. Okay whatever. Just put this to let ya know I did read these directions. I’ve had a couple of comments on how I just don’t get it with this Baijia stuff. I think I get it – not really rocket science here.

So this is what sweet potato noodles look like – pretty weird huh? The powdered seasoning was almost like a kind of cheese. Anyways, I added boiling water to the line and covered it for 6 minutes.

Whoa. Gaze upon it. I don’t know what the beans are but they’re kind of weird. The noodles are very mushy and clumpy and greasy. It is a tangled mushy noodle mess. As far as the taste goes, it’s not bad – kind of salty and has some kind of flavor I can’t pinpoint. The veggie bits remind me of the Unif Sauerkraut flavor bowl I had a while back. As far as a rating… I can’t say that I like it, however I find it kind of fascinating that a product like this would be constructed and then sold. Somebody out there really likes it. Unfortunately, my American palate is a little challenged and I can’t give it my blessing. 0.25 out of 5.0 stars – really inedible and not worthy of being called a food.

Eat the noodles…

And dig those bubbles!

The Ramen Rater Noodle Fest

So here’s a video with pretty much all the photos I’ve taken of noodles and where they come from. Strange, I know, but enjoy!

#133: Baijia Hot & Sour Flavor Instant Rice Noodle

Okay so last time I have something by this brand I really didn’t like it at all. But maybe this stuff will be better. Hear the decree of the Ramen Rater! I fear no noodle! I use full flavor sachet! I am invincible!

So rice noodles. Kind of neat looking – like a little bird’s nest.

Three packets – full of flavor no doubt…

Wow. I mean could this stuff look any weirder? Thin black liquid from one, thick, oozing weird goop from another and some clumpy powder from the silver one…

First off, the color is deep deep crimson. It’s rather striking actually, but that’s as far as positive strikes go from me. Noodles were slimy. Broth was greasy, tasted weird, had weird bits of seasoning that weren’t enjoyable at all, greasy, unenjoyable. Yeah – I’m not finishing the bowl – I’m giving it 0.0 out of 5.0 stars. Even with three packets, neat packaging and all, it’s absolutely nasty.

#69: Baijia Instant Sweet Potato Noodle Spicy Fei-Chang Flavor

Since these noodles are Chinese, I thought I’d include our pugs in on cooking them. They were extremely helpful with the preparation.

So Here we go – notice the pugs in the background. I thought sweet potato noodles sounded fascinating.

So this looks a little worrisome. Very dark noodles and three packets – one with a very fine powder and the other two – one with seasoned fat and the other was some form of hot pepper paste – but it was based with some form of greasy nastiness.

So here’s the finished product. It reminds me of gravy. However, not the kind of gravy I usually enjoy – like the stuff you can get on mashed potatoes at KFC. No, this is a mean gravy.
The noodles were too hot to eat until about 8 minutes after cooking. The broth was sucked up by the noodles and turned into a Jell-O like consistency. Very greasy concoction. It really is the kind of food that if I ate the whole bowl, I’d require an altogether new meal to ingest as to recover from the sheer work of eating this stuff.
Although rather nasty (I don’t honestly think people should eat this), it does certainly seem bizarre and I like bizarre. I’m going to say Fei-Chang means ‘dirt and urine.’
So let me just rate this ramen and get it over with. The official ramenrater.com rating here is 1.75 out of 5 stars. Gross. Just gross.
