#902: Sunlee Pho Bo Instant Rice Stick Beef Flavour

I reviewed another version of this in #502. It looks like this one is somewhat different; different color packet and a different sized rice noodle chunk. Let’s try it!

Nice little assortment.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added the dregs of my freezer bag of green bell pepper and broccoli, some Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake and some Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce. The noodles are pretty good – easily broken by the lips with a crumbly texture and fun chew. The broth isn’t bad; it has a bit of beef flavor but mostly is overwhelmed by a strong sweet basil flavor. I love sweet basil in real pho noodles, but this just made me want pho take out. The veggies were okay but I wish there were more here and there were some TVP beef bits that were nice additions. All in all, not too shabby but room for improvement. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 761934016535 .

#836: Binh Tay Mi Chay Vegetarian Instant Noodles

This is different – usually you don’t see a clear window in on the noodle block inside! Let’s have a try with this one.

A dense noodle block.

Powder seasoning.

Has a sweet and onionny taste.

Seasoned oil.

Has a nice scent.

Finished. Added a little Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce. The noodles are light and quite plentiful. Kind of remind me of the kind you would find in a cup noodle except of higher quality. The broth is pretty good! Has a nice onion and other vegetables taste to it. Decent stuff! 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8934566000025 .

#812: Master Kong/康师傅 Spicy Beef

Spicy beef! This was sent by Bo H. of China! Thanks again! These have all been a lot of fun and quite good! Let’s see how Master Kong’s Spicy Beef goes.

The block broke but not too badly.

Powdered base.

A decent amount of powder – tasty!

Seasoned oil.

Has a beefish smell.

The veggie packet – more of an herb packet it looks like.

I think the red pieces are chillies. Not sure about the other bits.

Finished. I added some onions, broccoli and re bell pepper, a slice of processed cheese, a fried egg and some of that awesome Dua Belibis hot sauce. The noodles are good – they suck up a lot of liquid and are tasty to boot. The broth is nice too – had a spicy and sweet taste to it and the beef flavor is very good. I like this a lot – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 6903252061024 .

Awesome Donation From China

Bo H., who lives abroad in China decided he’d send some nice Chinese varieties! He warned that it might take a long time – they were shipped May 8th and arrive today, June 27th!

Oh wow what’s in here?

Wow – they did REALLY well despite travelling for a month and a half in the mail! Most are Master Kong, one is Unif and one I’m not sure. Hoping these can get translated – I want to make sure they’re prepared correctly and to know what they are! Thank you very much, Bo! Some Ramen Ramter stickers will be on their way to you soon!

 

#627: Mì Omachi Xốt Spaghetti Beef

Thanks to Todd T. of Everett, Washington for hooking me up with this one – he got it from a Vietnamese client. Spaghetti from Vietnam eh? Sounds interesting. Nothing at all is in english on this packaging, so I’m going to be winging it.

The back of the package. So to any of you who don’t speak Vietnamese or read it for that matter, here’s the deal – and I learned it the hard way. You put the noodle block and the veggies in a bowl, add 400mL boiling water and cover for 3 minutes and then  stir and put the liquid packet on top.

Yeah – the sauce shouldn’t be there. Epic fail for the noodle guy (me).

Despite the spaghetti sauce being steeped with the noodles, it came out very nicely! The noodles were tasty and on the brink of weak but sturdy enough to get good marks. The sauce (I tried some straight from the packet before I added it) was delicious – very much like canned ravioli tomato sauce but seemed like it had a little beef going on in it – like real beef! The veg? Meh – was a little too much to be honest and wasn’t great. Altogether though, it was like slightly watered down spaghetti. With my mistake in mind, I would give this one 3.75 out of 5.0 stars is made correctly. I liked it the way I did it and sure it would be even better. UPC barcode number is 8936017361815.
