Here’s another one from Sakurai Foods, this time a bowl of miso ramen! I read that the bowl is made of recycle sugar cane stalk – pretty cool!

Here’s the info from the side and bottom (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block. Potato starch noodles, made of flour from Hokkaido.

Powder seasoning.

Has a nice deep and rich miso flavor.

The vegetable packet.

Looks like a smorgasbord of bits and pieces – nice selection!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added hard boiled egg with Krazy Mixed Up Salt, narutomaki, onion and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are soft and light with a night gauge. The broth has a nice miso flavor to it – rich flavor. The vegetables are nice with a good variety. All in all, a very satisfying bowl of noodles! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 4960813332650.

#943: Amino Kuchnia Polska Żurek

Here’s another new one from Joe & Gill of the UK! Wow! This is something brand new to me – instant noodles from Poland?! Yup they sure are. But what the heck is ‘Żurek?’ Well, Wikipedia has this to say:

The sour rye soup is a soup made of souredryeflour (akin to sourdough) and meat (usually boiled pork sausage or pieces of smoked sausage, bacon or ham). It is specific to Poland, where it is known as żur or żurek, and a variant is known as barszcz biały (“white barszcz“) which is made with wheat flour instead of rye. The soup is also found in the cuisines of other western Slavic nations such as Slovakia (kyslóvka). A variation of this soup is found in Czech Republic (kyselo – with mushrooms and without meat) and Lithuania.

Okay that’s cool – I have some ham I could add… Wikipedia continues:

In Poland it is sometimes served in an edible bowl made of bread or with boiled potatoes. The recipe varies from region to region.

In Silesia, a type of sour rye soup known as żur śląski is served in a bowl, poured over mashed potatoes. In the Podlaskie region, it is common to eat żurek with halved hard-boiled eggs.

In Poland żurek is traditionally eaten at Easter, but is also popular during other parts of the year. It is usually served with bread or buns, and sometimes flavored with bits of sausage, often in the plate made of bread.

I’ve got eggs too, so I think I’ll add some ham and hard boil an egg (of course after I have sampled the broth and noodles first for the reviw).

The import sticker (imported into England, that is).

The back of the package (click image to enlarge).

A big chunk of the noodle block.

The seasoning packet. A good sized one with a lot inside.

The powdered seasoning. Has a smoky scent and a definite sausage flavor – interesting!

Finished (click image to enlarge). I added thin sliced ham, sweet onion, some hard boiled egg and a bit of black pepper. The noodles aren’t bad – nothing amazing though. A nice texture that one would expect from instant noodles. The broth is very interesting. A light, smoked meat flavor – like smoked sausage. Interesting stuff. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 5900300587728 .

Here’s a recipe for Żurek.

Cool sounding track..

#684: Dragonfly Instant Noodles Artificial Seafood Flavor

I’ve been waiting a while to have some things in first before trying this one. I wanted to have some seafood to add to it or something interesting. Well, I had two something interestings to add to it, so let’s check this one out!

Here’s the back of the packaging.

As of this point, Dragonfly’s noodles have never failed to satisfy. Anice texture and gauge – really very nice.

Here’s the powdered seasoning packet.

This is the packet contents. For my birthday, my wife, son and I went to Seattle to Uwajimaya and found these little bowls. Well, I’m sure they’re sake cups but I needed something like a glass/ceramic pinch bowl for showing packet contents – and these are perfect!

Here’s the vegetable packet.

A nice amount of veggies here.

Finally, some seasoned oil.

It’s funny – the ingredients of this packet mention nothing about fish at all but it has a strong seafood scent!

My son and I shared noodles today and we tried a couple of ingredients I added to this one – Kamaboko and Naruto – I did a post about it here if you’d like to check it out!

Finished. As I mentioned, I added kamaboko, naruto and an egg. I also added one piece of sushinori (seaweed). This was a pretty good bowl of noodles. I really liked the noodles themselves – same as always. The broth though was a bit lighter in flavor than I expected. Dragonfly’s stuff is usually quite flavorful but this was a tad  less so. The veggies were nice – carrot bits were crisp as usual. All in all, quite good. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC barcode 721557450932 – get some here.

Part 2 of the Sagan series – thanks again to taintedbloop!

Amazing old school computer room from 1983!

#443: Lucky Me! N-Rich Instant Mami With Malanggay Chicken Tinola Flavor

I had another one of these that had ginger flavor with it – was pretty good! I think I got this one at the Seafood City in Tukwila on my birthday during the big noodle re-up of 2011.

A singld packet – the contents were free flowing by the way!

As you cab see, a lot of powder.

Green! Those noodles are green! Oh and I added a couple of eggs to the boiling water… GREEN NOODLES!!! So yeah they’re green but they taste great – good texture and the broth is swell. A very nice cozy warmth to this one. Very nice – 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. I dunno but the Philippine varieties of chicken ramen sure have it right.

#442: Nong Shim Kal Guk Soo Korean Style Noodle Soup

Okay so I reviewed Samyang’s Kalgugsu a long time ago and it said it was assorted clam flavored noodle soup. This one just says its Korean noodle soup, however its got mussels, anchovy, bonito, shrimp tunaand mushroom going on too. I wouldn’t call it assorted clam flavor this time around – more like assorted flavor flavor.

Veggies on the left, powder on the right.

Lots of stuff! So this one asked for 2 3/4 cups of water and to be cooked for six minutes!!!

Added two eggs to the boiling noodles while cooking. So first off, the noodles are very nice – high in quality and chewiness. The broth was good and hearty and the veggies were plentiful. I liked the flavor and body of the meal, and rating it accordingly. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.
