#947: Maruchan Yakisoba Jalapeno Cheddar Flavor

Merry Christmas Eve! Thought today I would go a little festive with my review. What does Jalapeno Cheddar instant yakisoba have to do with Christmas? Well, I don’t know but it just seemed like the right thing to do. You’ll see – trust me you’ll see. This is one I was looking for for a long time and my lovely wife Kit found it at the Grocery Outlet! Rad!

The bottom of the package (click image to enlarge).

Here’s what’s under the plastic wrap on top.

The noodle block.

The seasoning packet – rather large.

A lot of powdery cheese flavor! Has an interesting taste – I like it!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added red bell pepper, onion, green beans, scrambled egg that was cooked in a tree shaped cookie cutter, Dua Belibis chili sauce and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. Wow this is craziness. The noodles are nice – flat and broad with a nice consistency. The flavor’s great – like a spicy mac’n’cheese – and it’s decently spicy as well. Good stuff – I’m honestly surprised I haven’t seen it more than once, especially since its a product made domestically. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. Merry Christmas! UPC bar code 041789007675

Here’s a video about using Maruchan noodles to make mac’n’cheese

Maruchan has been posting a lot of these videos lately – nice to see people doing neat things with instant noodles!

#718: Ottogi Kiss Myon Spicy Chicken Flavor

Thanks to this sample from Nick over at OrderRamen, today I’m trying the third entry into the ring of ‘white broth’ ramyuns from Korea. The others, Paldo’s Kko Kko Myun and Samyang’s Nagasaki Jjampong I found to taste a lot like Jalapeno Cheese Cheetos! Very curious if Ottogi’s offering is like that too. Let’s find out!

Here’s the back of the packaging. This one’s different from the other two – right now, you can’t get the other two in the USA, but Ottogi’s got this stuff available now for US customers.

This is one big block of noodles! Awesomeness!

This is one decently filled packet of powder seasoning.

Very powdery stuff – much like the other white broth soups.

Here come the veggies!

Here are the contents of the packet.

Finished. Added a couple fried eggs with pepper and Krazy Mixed Up Salt. Starting with the noodles: very different than what I’m used to from a Korean noodle. The noodles bulked up nicely and had an interesting texture – the outermost layer was kind of like bean thread while the inside was firmer. The broth is pretty good stuff – has a nice, spicy jalapeno heat to it and had a good chicken flavor. I would not say though that this broth tastes as much like Jalapeno Cheese Cheetos, though. The veggies aren’t bad – would like to see a bit more. All in all, a pretty good bowl of noodles! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. 645175524953 – get it here!

Ottogi Kiss Myon commercial

Another version of the commercial…

Something I found interesting – there are a lot of ‘making of’ videos of famous Korean stars and their instant noodle commercials! Amazing@!

This guy is REALLY popular in Korea!

#388: Maruchan Instant Lunch Cheddar Cheese Flavor Ramen Noodles

So been really curious how this one’d pan out. I’ve tried mac and cheese-esque noodles before, but never in a cup…

So its your standard lid. Nothing more, nothing less.

So the seasoning is in with the noodles. It looks like there’s quite a bit of it too., packing 1100mg sodium. I think the Maruchan lower sodium one was 700 something milligrams abd was supposed to be 35% less.

So here’s the deal: it’s not bad. I think it would’ve been a good idea to use less water though. Was like cheese noodle soup. The noodles were broad and very cheesy though, and it was pretty good stuff. We had this stuff along with a couple of chicken and cheese wraps for dinner last night. Was a weird combo. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

I think this guy’s on to something.

#317: Maruchan Yakisoba Cheddar Cheese Flavor Home Style Japanese Noodles

These are some noodles my son Andy got from his Grandpa Gary from California! Andy was kind enough to allow me a bite so I could review them in exchange for preparing them for him.

Here’s some instructions!

This packet was really big and the only one included.

I’m gonig to say that this was about 4 tablespoons of safety orange powder.

So a cup of water and 4 minutes in the microwave and this is what you get. Really good stuff – much like Nissin’s Chow Pasta line; in fact identical. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

#226: Nissin Chow Noodles Cheddar Cheese Flavor Ramen Noodles

Before anyone gets their panties in a proverbial roffle, look at the lower right hand corner. It says ramen noodles.

So fill to the line, microwave for 5 minutes. Easy enough!

So this is one pretty big packet of powdered seasoning. I’m guessing cheese powder…

Holy mother! Indeed it was cheese powder and after a vibrant stir, we end up with this. So I am rather impressed. I found the noodles to be perfect and the cheese powder made it all rich and creamy almost exactly like that blue tall box of mac’n’cheese we’re all used to. I like it. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars – very surprised here. Get it right here.
