#937: Mama Shrimp Flavour (TOM YUM) Oriental Style Instant Noodles

NOTE – This was originally catalogued as a ‘Re-Review’ but actually hadn’t reviewed it before. Therefore, I am correcting this and making it the next successive review, which is #937.

Here’s something I picked up at Walmart that asked for a re-review. As I’m sure many of you have read, the stock of new varieties of noodles that I have to review has dwindled. I’m hoping that will change soon, but until them, I’m forced to re-review some older ones. This should be pretty good – a spicy shrimp Tom Yum variety from Thailand.

The back of the package (click to enlarge).

The noodle block. This is pre-seasoned and pretty good right out of the bag.

Here’s a dual packet – chili powder on the left and seasoning powder on the right.

Here we have the chili powder atop the seasoning powder.

Here’s a packet of paste.

Not a huge amount but I’m sure it is an interesting addition…

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added hard boiled egg with Krazy Mixed Up Salt, sweet onion, kamaboko and a little Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce. The noodles are this and kind of crumbly. The broth has a strong citrus flavor and heat – nice Tom Yum tastes to it. I would recommend it – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 052066000036. Get it here.

#636: Yamamori Tom Yam Ramen Pork Flavor(Tomyankun Ramen Porkfu)

After tasting those last two earlier, I was ready to have something that looked really good – and here it is! Tom Yam noodles, made in Thailand and from Japan!

Here’s the back of the packaging. I boiled an egg in with the noodles last time, but today I thought a couple fried eggs would go nicely.

Some noodles – look pretty standard. They had a little flavor.

Powder on the left and seasoned oil on the right.

As above, seasoning on the left and seasoned oil on the right. A lot of powder here!

Alrighty it’s done woo hoo! I made two eggs with a little Cavender’s All-Purpose Greek seasoning. I also added some Kizami Shoga (pickled ginger) and finally, some fried shallots – this time some fresh ones (thanks Greg B.!).  The noodles were perfect – reminiscent of the kind you’d find in Momofuku Ando‘s flagship Chikin ramen from 1958, just an exponentially milder taste. The broth is spicy and full of citrus. It’s perfect pork tom yam flavor – loved it. 4.75 out of 5.0 stars – wonderful! UPC barcode 4903101701356 .

#559: Wai Wai Quick Tom Yum Shrimp Flavour Instant Cup Noodle

Whoa what’s this?

Okay I cam read that. I figured I should pick out an orange one of some kind for Halloween…

Seasoned oil and powder…

Plus the high-tech folding fork!

Not an Autobot or a Decepticon, but this transformer feeds your face!

This stuff reeks of lemon. Reeks.

Noodles aren’t all that great but everything tastes nice – shrimp, high heat and citrus. Yup – Tom Yummy! Only rel downside is the cup itself; if you drink the broth out of it it tends to dribble down your chin. I’m adept at using a cup too so I don’t think its my fault, really. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Apparently this cartoon was banned… Happy Halloween! Commercials are below

#554: Yum Yum Oriental Style Instant Noodles Shrimp Flavour (Tom Yum)

Here we have some Yum Yum noodles sent to me from Holland. made in Thailand and they’re Tom Yum flavor. Sounds good to me – here we go.

Just like all the other Yum Yum flavorrs except this one has drk flavored oil – hmm…

Looks like oil and perhaps a paste going on.

The finished product. A couple of fried eggs and a few drips of the new Tabasco Buffalo style hot sauce. Noodles aren’t great but not bad – kind of baseline good. The first thing I taste is lemon, characteristic tom yum. Spicy too. The broth has a nice color and flavor that permeates the noodles very well. Good bowl of noodles – 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Yum Yum Jumbo Tom Yum Talay commercial.

This is a strange commercial; it’s just a burger. Looks very boring. But I wonder what ‘dressings’ they offer? There’s one of these next to Seafood City in Tukwila… Hmmm.

#439: Little Cook Tom Yum Seafood Premium Noodle

So the idea of a seafood noodle soup with fake seafood has been kind of daunting for the past couple monthsHowever, today was the day. I must fear no ramen! So, here we have some seafood tom yum fromThialand.

Nice earthy colors from left to right: dry seasoning powder, seasoned oil paste and finally chili powder.

Then we’ve got a retort pouch!

It’s full of fake seafood – looks like it’s made from tapioca and other things. There appear to be mushrooms in there too according to the ingredients.

Wow now that’s a crazy looking pile of packet contents. Should be interesting…

Added a couple fried eggs. So here we are. The noodles are of a wider gauge – broad and flat and actually quite good. The broth is flavorful – spicy and lemonny. As for the fake seafood, it’s not bad. However the mushrooms are kind of funky – I had one larger piece that was almost the consistency of a carrot. So this was pretty good stuff I’ll admit and I’m kind of pleased I have two of them. Giving this one a 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.
