#389: Mama Vegetarian Tom Yum

So here’s one that came down from Canada but I wager it’s available at most good sized Asian groceries around here.

So we have a powder on the left and an oil on the right.

So here we are. Notice that this is actually a very small block of noodles.

I added a few slices of roast turkey deli meat. So it’s spicy, lemony and yes, spicy. Greasy too. The noodles are funky but Mama funky and I like them. All in all, the whole thing was a little too citrus and spicy for me and I was unable to finish the meal without worry that the citrus and spicy mixed with the grease would cause some vicious heartburn. I’m giving it a 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

#384: Nissin Demae Iccho Instant Macaroni In Soup Tom Yam Goong Flavour

So I’ve been doing these slowly because they’re so cool! Another my sis brought back from Canada. Tom Yam eh? Should be interesting!

Two packets – seasoned stuff on the left and powder on the right.

Powder and paste!

The finished product. It was a trip! As an American, I’m used to one thing with macaroni. Cheese. Or some glue and sticking it to a board and presenting it as art. This stuff is great – it was a little spicy, a light bit seafoody and very citrussy! I found it to be quite good. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars!

#275: Mama Cup Shrimp Tom Yum Instant Noodles

So this is an interesting packaging first off. The lid is made from a metal foil and underneath that is all plastic. Here goes some tom yum shrimp flavor!

Here’s that metal foil lid I mentioned above.

Counter clockwise from top: folding disposalbe fork, paste and seasoning powder.

Packet contents atop noodle block inside container.

So it kind of looks bland in this photo but bland it is not. Very strong citrus flavofred broth. I just got a shrimp when I was slurping it and they rehydrate pretty well although it seemed a little funny. The noodles are what you’d expect in a cup of noodles. I like the heat and citrus of the tom yum here and I’m giving it a 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. One thing – the lip of the cup is a little sharp and doesn’t lend itself very well at all to sipping the soup.

#219: Six Fortune Tom Yam Instant Soup Noodle (Thai Style Sour and Chili Flavor)

Tom Yam time? Let’s do it.

Who knows how old this pack of noodles is – was got from a seedy little asian grocery on Aurora. The liquid packet was pretty much solid.

It had turned to a gritty pasty stuff.

An egg was tossed in with the noodles as the boiled. So works for me – was hot flavor and lemon flavor which is typical for tom yam instant noodles. The noodles weren’t bad. Nothing too crazy here. I’m giving it 2.75 out of 5.0 – okay stuff.
