A New Thai Chili Sauce From Apinya Thai Food Co.!

I saw something about a Thai chili sauce mentioned on my favorite hot sauce group on facebook recently. It got me wondering if it would be something that could be an alternative to the standard big bottle of Sriracha that I usually go for. I tracked down the company and asked if they could possibly send a sample – a few days later, it arrived!

First off, the bottle is interesting – it has a little flip up spout like you would find on a shampoo bottle – but its similarieties to shampoo immediately halt on a dime right there. This stuff is excellent! First off, the second ingredient after peppers is ginger, which I’m sure those who have followed this blog for a while will know by now that I’m a big fan of ginger.

This tastes like nothing I’ve had before and I think it’s a real winner! It has a flavor that I wouldn’t expect to be coming out of Virginia, USA either! Wow! I’ll be trying it on a bowl of noodles very soon – possibly one of the ones from Australia (one of the packs is made in Thailand for the Australian company, so it would definitely be fitting)! Thank you to the kind people at Apinya for sending along a bottle! #931: Kamfen Dried-Mix Noodles Soya Bean Paste Flavored

Here’s another of these neat trays. This one’s soybean paste flavored. Interesting again how they use upper and lower case all willy-nilly.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added stir fry veggies, sweet onion, turkey with a little Texas Pete hot sauce and a little Dua Belibis chili sauce. The noodles are good – very enjopyable consistency and lots of them – broad and thin. The flavoring is great – salty and full of flavor – that Chinese spiced taste of anise and ginger is prevalent. The veggies were okay too. I think I like this one almost as much as the minced pork variety – 3.75  out of 5.0 stars !UPC bar code 6920363402225 .

#666: Lishan Food Mfg Co. Ltd. Chinese Instant Noodle

This has to be one of the strangest instant noodles I’ve seen. No instructions. Strange packets. Here we go with #666!

Okay this is weird. A small packet of powder seasoning on the right year, but on the left, a clear, unsealed plastic cellophane packet with… I’m going with green onions and black pepper but it sure looks suspect.

No instructions… Okay so let’s go with 350cc of boiling water and steep it.

Tossed a fried egg on top. Okay so the noodles are strange; not very thick and kind of stringy. Not a big fan. The broth is tasty but kind of ‘off.’ Has a bit of an industrial taste to it. The veggies kind of float here and there and taste a littrle weird. I dunno – it’s interesting, but not great. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC barcode 4712275000017 .

#369: Bon Go Jang Tofu Udon Dosirak

So this one took a little work – all I knew was it was from Korea. Wasn’t sure of anything much other than that and the brand name. Luckily, those two things brought it all together. I found that this stuff is called Tofu Udon Dosirak and comes from Hanil Food Co. Ltd. in Seoul, Korea under its Bon Go Jang line of products. ‘Dosirak’ translates like ‘Bento’ or ‘Take Out Lunch.’ On their website it describes this as “fresh katsuo bushi soup with tofu udon that you can eat simply by adding hot water.”

There’s the veggies and soup base on the udon.

Poured some boiling water on the noodles and let them sit for five minutes and voila. So the broth is interesting – sweet and salty and kind of tasted a hint fermented. I liked it. The veggies were insanely plentiful, and the noodles were hearty and good. I liked it quite a bit. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars!

#346: Paldo Bowl Noodle Soup Spicy Artificial Chicken Flavor

So I’ve reviewed a lot of bowl noodles. I’m confused as to how Paldo, Samyang and Nong Shim all have them and they’re all called bowl noodle. Spicy chicken is pretty common – let’s see how this is.
