I saw something about a Thai chili sauce mentioned on my favorite hot sauce group on facebook recently. It got me wondering if it would be something that could be an alternative to the standard big bottle of Sriracha that I usually go for. I tracked down the company and asked if they could possibly send a sample – a few days later, it arrived!
First off, the bottle is interesting – it has a little flip up spout like you would find on a shampoo bottle – but its similarieties to shampoo immediately halt on a dime right there. This stuff is excellent! First off, the second ingredient after peppers is ginger, which I’m sure those who have followed this blog for a while will know by now that I’m a big fan of ginger.
This tastes like nothing I’ve had before and I think it’s a real winner! It has a flavor that I wouldn’t expect to be coming out of Virginia, USA either! Wow! I’ll be trying it on a bowl of noodles very soon – possibly one of the ones from Australia (one of the packs is made in Thailand for the Australian company, so it would definitely be fitting)! Thank you to the kind people at Apinya for sending along a bottle! Check out their website at www.apinya.co!
Got this one at a grocery store in Livermore, California called Nob Hill. Pretty rare these days that I find something I haven’t tried in a grocery store!
Detail from lid.
It looks like a noodle burger!
Powdered seasonings.
Wasn’t a huge packet by any means.
Interesting – re-branded Wei Lih bowl perhaps.
Seasoned oil.
Finished. I added some veggies, a couple fried eggs, some Krazy Mixed Up Salt and some Dua Belibis chili sauce. The noodles are a little on the thin side and slightly crumbly, but not bad. The broth is very nice – in the comfort food realm I would say – a nice tasty and a little oily melange. This is pretty good stuff! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 074601025649 .
San Francisco Veggie Bean huh?
This is a video I made of our drive home from California to the Seattle area. I took a ton of short videos with my digitaol camera and when the battery died I used my cell phone. I then put them in order, added some music and titles in Live Movie Maker, sent to YouTube and used their stabilization filter. Yay!
So three hundred reviews behind this and onward we go! So here’s a brand I’ve never seen before. A lot of funny stuff on this package – shirmp flavor, bad english… But proof is in the eating right?
Looks like two types of veggies at the top, onions? Then the yellowish looks like perhaps onion seasoning oil and then a powdered base.
Very interesting looking noodles…
A single fried egg tossed in. So this is completely different and very good! Very interesting noodles – much like the ones found in Lipton Cup-a-Noodle and Mrs Grass soup, except the noodles are longer by quite a bit. The broth is chickenny and the egg dropped in went nice. What’s extremely odd about this is that it is supposed to be shrimp flavor! Mysterious… It’s a great bowl of soup- I really dug it! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars – really I’m highly impressed by this one.
