Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Paldo Gomtang Oriental Style Noodles With Soup Base

How often do you see Korean instant noodles that aren’t spicy? Well, here’s one of those rare times. Pronounced Gohm-tahng (thanks Moses from Paldo America!), this is a traditional beef noodle soup.

Package back.

Noodle block broke in half – no worries!

A single packet – no veggies in this one.

Lots of seasoning powder. It has a strong sweet and garlic scent that I found very enticing.

Finished. Added some roast beef lunch meat and a little Krazy Mixed Up Salt. This was great! The noodles are a little different – I noticed they include a little rice powder in the mix and I think that’s why they have a slightly chewier texture. I also noticed as the noodles cooked, the broth was getting a creamy white color. The broth is wonderful. The flavor is a sweet, beefy and garlicky melange that is very pleasing. This isn’t a spicy one either. Very good – 4.75 out of 5.0 stars! Delicious! UPC bar code 648436100149 – get it here.

#568: Paldo Gomtang Noodles Beef Flavor With Vegetable

Gomtang? Sounds pretty gizarre. I wonder what it means…

I found a little info on Wikipedia about this stuff:

Guk is largely categorized into four groups of soups, such as malgeun jangguk (맑은 장국), gomguk (곰국), tojangguk (토장국), and naengguk (냉국). Malgeun jangguk literally means “clear (malgeun, 맑은) soup (guk, 국) seasoned with a condiment (jang, 장),” such as doenjang (soy bean paste) or ganjang, and is served in a bansang (반상, regular meal table). The main ingredients for malgeun jangguk are meat, fish, vegetables, and seafoods. Gomguk, also called gomtang, refers to either a soup type made by boiling various beef parts such as rib, oxtail, brisket, head, and so forth for a long time, or made with ox bone by the same method. The broth of gomguk tends to have a milky color and to be rich and hearty taste. It can also be made with chicken or pork bone, to produce samgyetang or gamjatang.

Now we may continue.

Ingredients and instructions.

Single packet which has a very strong garlic salt kind of odor to it.

Pre-boiling water.

Wow this is great stuff! Decent for cup noodles and the broth is kind of like a rich and creamy beef broth with some nice veggies in it. This would go excellent outdoors in the colder season… 4.0 out of 5.0 stars! Get the kind that comes in a package here.

This guy very methodically makes some homemade Gomtang – good video.

Yep – another random Thanksgiving home movie from Youtube. I think the ones from the 60s 70s and 80s are much more entertaining…

#533: Paldo Gomtang Oriental Style Noodles With Soup Base

Gomtang huh/ Sounds like a Star Trek alien creature that’s been travelling possibly hundreds of thousands of years across space to find it’s final resting place in the vicinity of a star about to go nova. But I don’t think that’s what they’re going for here.

One packet of soup base…

With a lot in it!

Here’s the finished product. I liked it although I don’t exactly know what kind of flavor its supposed to be. Kind of a onion and garlic and pepper taste. Those are all in the stock ingredients as well as beef flavor, although its rather light in color. Good noodles. I’m going to rate this one a 3 out of 5. It’s a solid tasty pack of noodles and I liked it. Get it here.
