#817: Souper Shrimp Flavor Bowl Ramen

Got this one at a grocery store in Livermore, California called Nob Hill. Pretty rare these days that I find something I haven’t tried in a grocery store!

Detail from lid.

It looks like a noodle burger!

Powdered seasonings.

Wasn’t a huge packet by any means.

Interesting – re-branded Wei Lih bowl perhaps.

Seasoned oil.

Finished. I added some veggies, a couple fried eggs, some Krazy Mixed Up Salt and some Dua Belibis chili sauce. The noodles are a little on the thin side and slightly crumbly, but not bad. The broth is very nice – in the comfort food realm I would say – a nice tasty and a little oily melange. This is pretty good stuff! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 074601025649 .

San Francisco Veggie Bean huh?

This is a video I made of our drive home from California to the Seattle area. I took a ton of short videos with my digitaol camera and when the battery died I used my cell phone. I then put them in order, added some music and titles in Live Movie Maker, sent to YouTube and used their stabilization filter. Yay!

#811: Mr. Noodles Vegetable Flavour Instant Noodles

Time for more Canadian ramen! Thanks go to Mark K. and Erika L. for getting these to me! I notice on this one it doesn’t say ‘simulated flavour,’ so I guess it does actually taste like vegetables. Well, we’ll see!

The back of the package.

The noodle blocks always look so nice.

The seasoning packet.

Here’s the bowl of flavor.

Finished. Added some veggies, a little processed cheese, one egg and some of that awesome Dua Belibis Indonesian hot sauce. The noodles aren’t bad – still kind of weird as the others have been with a kind of crumbly texture and not a ton of taste. The broth is pretty bland and tasted kind of funky. Pretty meh – 1.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 059491000204 .

So my son’s name is Andreas Wolfgang Benjamin Walter and all but Benjamin are names from musicians. First, This is Andreas Kisser from Sepultura.

Of course, Wlfgang is in homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

I found a record at the local library when I was young and picked up the harmonica and eventually was able to play everything on the album. Big Walter Horton is in my opinion the epitome of blues harp – bar none.

#800: Mr. Noodles Instant Noodles Chicken Simulated Flavour

Here it is – number 800! Gonna hit that four digits sooner or later. Thanks go to Mark K. and Erika L. for getting these to me! I had to decide on an appropriate variety for today’s big 800, so I though Canadian chicken (simulated flavor) instant noodles was fascinating enough to do the trick! So, here we go!

The back of the package.

The noodle block.

The single soup base packet.

It’s got a definitely funky chicken taste…

Andy had some Nongshim Bowl Noodle Beef and kamaboko! Check out his blog, Andy’s LEGO Stuff here!

Finished. Added veggies, an egg, some Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce and some Ajishima Kimchi furikake. Well, the noodles weren’t too bad this time – not all funky. The broth was better too – had a better taste to it. Then again, this is chicken flavor – hard one to make unpalatable! I honestly found this to be the best Mr. Noodles I’ve tried thus far! 3.0 out of 5.0 stars! UPC bar code 059491000501 .

Our First Experience With Kamaboko & Narutomaki

I’ve seen many times mentions of Kamaboko and Naruto in ramen dishes and looked all over for them. This last Saturday we went to Uwajimaya and I found both! Hah! First, let’s check out Kamaboko. It’s surimi, which comes in many ways – for example, imitation crab is one form of surimi.

Here’s how it comes – on a little piece of wood! You slice it thinly and it can be eaten unheated since it’s steamed previously. It’s slightly rubbery and chewy – kind of like a cold-cut version of calamari. t has a very light flavor.

This is Naruto. There’s a popular anime character with the same name…

If you click on him, you’ll see a little spiral on his forehead…

Hey look – the same little spiral! So it’s like a log of fish that you slice thinly. It is a lot like the Kamaboko except not as chewy and has a more fishy flavor.

Today I had some noodles with my son. He had a bowl of Nissin Dmae Ramen – the sesame oil flavor.

He was very interested in trying the Naruto and Kamaboko! The fearless Andy didn’t question ‘what’ it was, but was very interested as it’s from Japan – he’s in a club at school called ‘Nakano Club’ – they’ll have visiting students soon from Nakano, Japan and so he’s interested in all things Japanese. He liked the Kamaboko a little more than me – was hoping for a bit more flavor, but it was nice. I liked the Naruto better than he did. It had a slightly fishier taste and was less chewy. He ate the whole bowl of noodles though with all the additions! Not bad!
