#950: Ottogi Kiss Myon Asian Style Instant Noodle Bowl (Cup)

Here’s the first new Ottogi variety I’ve reviewed in a long time! It’s an interesting one, too. This is most definitely a cup, however it says it is a noodle bowl on the packaging – weird! Hoping in 2013 to be able to get with Ottogi and do a Meet The Manufacturer – they’ve got some interesting twists on Korean instant noodles that are really good! Well, let’s give this one a try!

Here are the details from the side panels (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block.

A single seasoning packet.

A hot and spicy powder! Wow!

Here’s a little bit of the veggies from the bottom of the cup.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added an egg, green bell pepper and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are really quite nice. They have a little tension to them and are soft. The broth has a rich and spicy chicken flavor which I enjoyed. A good white broth cup! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 645175573227 – get the pack version here.

Kiss Myon TV commercial.

Another K-Pop star commercial for Ottogi.

#933: Paldo Kokomen Cup

Hey look! The Kokomen cup! Been waiting to try this one with some leftover Thanksgiving turkey!

The information panels (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block awaits!

The seasoning powder.

The seasoning powder. Spicy jalapeno and chicken yeeouch!

Here’s a little bit of thre veggies and the chicken.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added an egg with French’s French Fried Onions on top, turkey, Cavender’s Greek Seasoning and a little Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are nice and light in this version – very thin and tasty. I have found this style of noodle to be a little lacking before in cups, but I have to say that the noodle in combination with the broth is absolutely delightful. I must say that the Kokomen broth is truly one of my favorites on the market; it’s got that comfort chicken flavor kicked up with jalapeno – delicious! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars! UPC bar code 648436100712

Angry Kokomen training camp! Can’t wait to get my hands on some of this stuff!

Re-Review: Nongshim Mupama Tangmyun Noodle Soup

I’ve wanted to re-review this one for a while. Just has a kind of weird name, ya’know? Here’s what the Nongshim site says about it:

Mupama Tangmyun is a hearty Noodle Soup with a separate package of freeze-dried vegetable seasonings so there is no need to add additional vegetables.

It says at the bpottom to improve it, add your favorite vegetables. But as always, I’ll give it a try as packaged and then pile some things on.

The back of the package.

The big ol’ noodle block – looks tasty!

The seasoning packet.

Lots of powder.

A vegetable seasoning packet perhaps?

Interesting little tasties…

Finally, the large vegetable packet.

A lot of veggies and a nice variety too. I don’t think I’ll add more. But then again I am hungry… Hmm…

I asked for a mean angry face – looks like I got one! Top Ramen Chicken with a slice of cheese and some kamaboko for the boy.

Finished. Added an egg, a slice of cheese and a little squirt of Sunchang Gochujang . The noodles are your standard Nongshim – wider than most and a nice texture. The broth is very veggie – not spicy though. The veggies were decent – and extremely plentiful. I gotta say, it’s all about vegetables in this one. Not bad. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 031146157600 – get it here.

Donation Of Samples From Nongshim America & Nongshim Korea!

I got two shipments today – one from Nongshim America, which I visited last week (there’ll be a lot of stuff all about the visit, the plant tour and the people very soon!). Here’s the first one from Nongshim America!

Hey look at that! Shin Ramyun Black in a big cup! Plus, it’s onion flavor! Also, notic in the box there’s a couple packs of the new Jinjja Jinjja! Also what’s this? Soba? I’m extremely interested in trying these out – never knew they made this! Thanks go to Ray Adams and all the nice folks at Nongshim America! Can’t wait to try these out!

Yesterday, the mailman knocked on our door and had me sign for a box from Korea – samples of a new product called Jinjja Jinjja (which translates to Really Really (Spicy Spicy). I had the opportunity to try it during my tour at Nongshim America last week and boy are they good! I’ll be doing a full in-depth review of them shortly.

It felt like the box just had noodles inside but I was happily surprised! They were kind enough to send some posters and cardboard advertising pieces too!

Awesome! Another reusable grocery bag! Really like these.

They also sent a box with promotional items pertaining to Hooroorook and their new spokesperson, K-Pop star IU.

Last but not least, an apron and triangular hair-holding thing (my wife was kind enough to take the picture and tie it on my head!)! Can’t wait to do a review of these noodles!!! Thanks to Daehyun Song and everyone at Nongshim Korea for sending this along!

The Ramen Rater News: Korea Yakult (Paldo) Will Be Exporting Kkokkomyeon Soon!

I’ve heard now from two seperate sources that this Kkokkomyeon stuff is really popular and is going to be a really big deal when it comes to the USA. Both a seller of instant noodles alluded to it as well as a mention by name by the lady at the Kitty House at 99 Ranch Market (they sell Hello Kitty stuff there).

It has been named the business success of the year in Korea – beating out the iPad 2! Pretty amazing that noodles beat out Steve Jobs’ last hurrah.  Here are some articles about this stuff. Rest assured that as soon as I can get my mitts on some of these noodles, a very in-depth and detailed review will be found here.  Hey look!!! I just looked online and found you can get them off of Amazon – look here and here.
