Ladies and gentlemen, the enormous Ramen Box has been opened and we begin. This one comes from Korea.

Holy cow look at this one! There’s the big pile of seasoning powder in the middle, but look at all this other stuff! Wow, I’m thoroughly impressed – I wasn’t expecting to see this much stuff going on here. Neat little naruto slices, sliced fish stuff, and fried somethings. I would love to know what all these things are! Lots of veggies too – carrot and onion and more.
Bamm finished product. Mmm… The noodles are nice – chewy and thick… Was nice to find a lot of pieces of fish and veggies with every bite! This is a rarity in the instant noodle world I assure you. The broth had a very nice seafood taste and was very nice. I really was impressed with this one and give it 4.5 out of 5.0 stars! Get it here.
So here’s the second Hong Kong Nissin Cup Noodles I’ve found. I’m really hoping to find some more flavors cuz thdy’re really awesome! Well, here we go…

All done. I can’t get over how much corn they put in these things… So this one is pretty good. The noodles are your standard Nissin Cup Noodles style and consistency. The broth is rather salty this time, but has a nice flavor and yes, it is crablike! The veggies are very ample and I’m happy and quite pleased with the experience. It does seem a little funky though as the bit of pollack didn’t reconstitute so well. I’m throwing this one a 3.25 out of 5.0 stars.
So first off, I’d like to thank Walnuts4Gold from reddit.com for helping me figure out the name of this stuff. The only thing I had to go on was the phone number on the bottom. From that I figured out with a little research that Sanyo Foods makes these noodles. Then Walnuts4Food sent me a link with some other varieties including this one. This one is the Mentaiko variety. What’s mentaiko? Wikipedia states it is…
Mentaiko (明太子?) is the marinated roe of pollock, and is a common ingredient in Japanese cuisine. Mentaiko originated from myeongranjeot (명란젓) of Korean cuisine and was introduced to Japan after the Russo-Japanese War. Kawahara Toshio, a Busan-born Japanese, adapted Korean mentaiko to Japanese tastes in Fukuoka in the 1950s. The name is derived from the Korean word for Alaska pollock (mentai, 명태 : myeongtae in Korean) and the Japanese word for “child” (子, ko?). The typical seasoning and flavor is slightly different in Japan.
Mentaiko is made in a variety of flavors and colors and is available at airports and main train stations. It is usually eaten with onigiri, but is also enjoyed by itself with sake. A common variety is spicy mentaiko (辛子明太子, karashi mentaiko?). It is a product of the Hakataward of Fukuoka City.
It makes perfect sense that this must be what it is….

So the pasta sauce was a deeper red but really infused into the noodles. The topping was seaweed and a nice addition. It was a spicy and slightly fishy affair – very flavorful and very interesting. I quite liked it – I have never had anything like it before. Was really surprised at just how good the noodles were – they were perfect as far as I’m concerned.
Don’t know if you can discern it really but the light orangish dots are the fish roe (eggs). This was an interesting thing; fish egg spaghetti. I am highly enthused. What was also interesting is that the use by date was 12.25.2010 – Christmas! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars – Weird, tasty and good.

So this is the 200th instant noodle I’ve reviewed! So bright eyed and vaguely bushy tailed at 6:30am, here we go! I’d like to first thank Kit for picking #199 and #200 for my reviews and also for cruising us around and going to all of these Asian groceries around here. So one packet of powder soup base. Very simple here. I should mention that these noodles are by Nong Shim, which makes all sorts of products – mostly in Korea. But these noodles are made in the Unite States.
Quite a bit of that powder; I think it may be some extremely spicy stuff at first glance; usually Korean noodles that have a bright colored soup base like this that say spicy are tongue toasting…
So here’s what it looks like after some boiling water and 3 minutes with the lid shut and a stir. I thought I’d throw a twist on it though…
I don’t think that people usually have this stuff with a couple of fried eggs in it – but I thought the chicken could use some egg. I found a couple little round thin pieces that weren’t from the egg in there. I think I figured out what they are from the ingredients: dehydrated pollock! Yes, little pieces of whitefish in chicken flavor noodle soup. Says CONTAINS: EGGS, MILK, FISH, WHEAT AND SOY. So I thought that was kind of weird. Anyways, on to the review. The noodles weren’t the best in the world – much like a Cup Noodles type of noodle. No backbone. The broth was perfect – not too salty and chicken taste was present. It wasn’t spicy at all to be honest as I had expected a death grip of heat I was somewhat pleased by this. There weren’t really any veggies to speak of, but what there were were pretty good. The fried eggs on top sealed the deal and made this one excellent bowl of noodles. I’m giving this one 4.5 out of 5.0 stars – yes really! This is the first Nong Shim Bowl Noodle I’ve reviewed, kind of surprising since it is so commonplace to see. I think I’m going to do more of these soon – as I begin the next 200 reviews! Get it here.
